Students play a mixer game at new student orientation. If you have information about this photo, we’d love to hear it.
Recognize of these new students at orientation?
Are you or someone you know in this picture? It was taken during new student orientation in the field behind Harmony Hall and Lion’s Court. Since Lion’s Court was torn down in 2006 because of structural problems, it’s definitely before then.
Send any information you have (including what the heck is going on!) to Lyndsie McPadden, and you could win a Penn State Beaver T-shirt!

Follow up: 1965 basketball team
In our last edition, we shared this yearbook photo of the 1965-66 men’s varsity basketball team and asked for comments from team members. Player John Reid, pictured fifth from the left in the back row, told us, “As a first year team never playing together before, we surpassed all of our expectations. 6 wins, 1 loss. Great group of players lead by the scoring machine Al Detz (third from the left, front row). What a way to start a new basketball program at PSU Beaver! Great memories!”
Follow up: Soccer team
Gary Yehle, ’73 ENG, provided us with information about this soccer team photo, which we published in our spring edition. He also provided three newspaper clips about the team.
“The soccer photo is from the 1969-1970 yearbook. In the fall of 1969 a soccer team was formed by Coach Dick Beck.
“Kneeling are Co-captains Cliff Ewing and Doug Rockwell (the only sophomore on team). Behind them is Coach Dick Beck. Standing (left to right) are Jim Stuart (manager), Don Hunkele, Jim Beaver, Jim Platts, Jim Metro, Pete Updike, Mick Glumac, Larry Saunders, Chris Tardio, Bob Gillstrom, Jim Prothers, Bob Fedyski, Jim Cool, Ted Smith, Jim McGaffic, Bill Perssons, Gary Yehle (me).
“I was injured (torn tendon at the left knee) after the third game of the season and had a full length cast on my left leg in the photo for six weeks. Bill Perssons and I played on the soccer, basketball, and baseball teams during our two years at Beaver Campus.”
For sharing the information with us, Gary earned a Penn State Beaver T-shirt. We think it looks pretty good on him.
