After 21 years with Penn State, Associate Teaching Professor of Philosophy Dr. Irene Wolf has retired from the Beaver and New Kensington campuses.
Wolf began her career with Penn State in 2000. She taught courses at the Beaver, Greater Allegheny and New Kensington campuses in values, ethics and philosophy. She also supervised research projects and independent studies when students had interests in philosophy beyond the scope of her courses.
Wolf’s engaged teaching earned her multiple awards at the Beaver campus including a teaching award in 2006 and two service awards in 2002 and 2005. She received recognition for her efforts at neighboring western Pennsylvania campuses when she was given a Spirit Award in 2001 at Greater Allegheny and 2003 at New Kensington.
Wolf has been valued by her students for enhancing their use of philosophy to lead thoughtful lives, Penn State Beaver Director of Academic Affairs Carey McDougall said. Wolf’s courses explored difficult questions that humans have tackled from ancient times to our present, often asking students to perform community service to reflect on the real-world applications of her course content.
“For over two decades, Dr. Wolf has dedicated her time and expertise to countless students and colleagues. She will be missed by those with whom she worked across the western region, as well as by colleagues from across the Commonwealth,” McDougall said.
